What makes a pretty girl? woman? bride?

It's very similar indeed to what makes a pretty cake.

I know she has to be neat, have symmetry, is sophisticated and adorned with little dainty details. She has to have colour and flair, but not too much! just enough to make an impression.

Not forgetting, she's got to have good taste and is filled with soft and kind yummyness on the inside! Nobody likes a beautiful colour on the outside; and a stiff, dry, flaky inside! *grin* You know what I mean. heh

and so.. i've got this TO-DO list

Which i generally cherish when I need guidance and discipline at work.

Nothing in it has to do with actually baking cakes. The cake n order lists are posted all over my weekly 'wall' in the yummy cake workroom.
This is more a 'life' list. it has the word BLOG BLOG BLOG written and circled all over it each time it's updated. and you can tell I'm not very good at taking instructions from my list. Haha
The long hiatus has been from a holiday I gave myself just after the mad Chinese New Year rush we had at the Delectable. I went away with the family to a far away land, prettier, colder and definitely more exciting than the daily dose of Kuala lumpur I'm fed with daily.
Now that I'm home; Valentines day hits me in a face like a splash of cold water on a hot and humid Malaysian day! Time to get a whiff of all that LOVE in the air!

My game plan is to start with the littler tasks first and drink many many espresso shots along the way *hehe*

Out Hops the Rabbit and In Comes The Year of the DRAGON!

People are getting excited about what luck the dragon year brings; and how dragon babies are going to change the world etc..etc.. *laughs* I'm more worried about how difficult it will be to make mini dragons out of sugar for my cupcakes! Hehe.. I'll show everyone soon how I work my way around it this Chinese New Year! Still can't decide if it's proper to do a full fierce looking chinese dragon or just a cutesy friendly one the kids will love.

As the Chinese New Year draws real close; I've been getting many enquiries on hamper baskets and gift ideas for the season, as of now; I've put out some options for people to purchase off shelf and we have also been taking bulk orders for these as well. Not many are left; but my elves and I are busy fulfilling more requests for customized gifts!

I guess it'll be a full week of basket and tray hunting for me!
I've recently scoured some huge gold ingots with lids and decided to fill them with lots of delicious goodies as new year gifts! I think they look so auspicious and grand! There are a few variations to these, they also come in a range of prices from RM48 to RM288. I would suggest to come by to our stores to check them out of email us in advance what sort of quantities and budgets you're interested to find. I can always tailor make them to your liking if you purchase more than a couple.

Oh YES! We've got a special running for this Chinese New Year season! Our pink and yellow XL cookie tins priced at RM78 will be having a RM10 Discount!! valid from the 1st to the 31st of January! They are filled with giant chocolate chip walnut cookies and it's a perfect gift to bring visiting family and friends when new year comes along. Su wants to bid Goodbye to 2011, I barely felt it pass me by.

Day to day.. weeks.. months.. and all of a sudden, it's Christmas again! Time passes wayyy too quickly. I wish I could replay the entire year to have a clearer picture of everything that has happened and all the things that I have done. I hate to admit that I probably would have done lots differently. *shame* haha lets change that next time new year's eve comes about! ;) Never gonna learn enough about living i suppose

I'm actually more excited about 2012 than i am sad about 2011! heh.. What about you?

It's finally the 25th! After a month of anticipation and slogging away at cookies and cakes, we take a short breather day to celebrate with the rest of the holiday go-ers about town.

I feel so slack for receiving gifts without having time to exchange any... getting invitations to parties and not attending any.. making promises to catch up and never getting a moment to make that call! I guess I will have to make it up to everyone with HAPPY NEW YEAR gifts and celebrations instead. LOL It is the time each year that keeps me on my toes! Business is swell and booming! So I can't complain ;)

Time to bid goodbye to our penguin friends at Delectable... I will see them again next year! Hopefully in more exciting and fun ways.

Thanks to all that had come by to Delectable and showered us with love, praises and gifts. The elves and I have been in such a good mood despite the busy-ness.

A Carnival Life

Being in the business of 'celebrations' or 'retail' is almost a carnival life; minus the actual moving from town to town and being on the road.

Very much like those who entertain crowds and sell the product of 'joy or fun', my weeks often begin on Tuesday and ends on Sunday. Parties are my thing, events or weddings or gifting all happens on the weekends and my days leading up to every sleepless weekend begins after my crashday Monday. Well.. to be fair, i crash around Sunday night right after the last cake of the weekend leaves my hands.

I have a quick *phew* moment, shut my eyes, slump into bed and YAY! I guess for most everyone out there; it's called "5pm Friday". heh

I'm not sure if I got a little too excited with the whole penguins for Christmas thing! haha but no doubt, our customers are thrilled by the idea.

I've been whining about being at the beach and missing my sunshine for close to a year now. I felt so deprived LOL. I finally got what I was wishing for, the family made a trip to Bali ... plenty plenty sun and a week after we headed for a family reunion up at Pangkor Laut, north of Kuala Lumpur... lots of sand there too! yay!

I didn't exactly have much time to be in the water or lie about in the sand, it was a little different to how my days to the neighbourhood beach felt. With my cousins and their babies running about and our parents as well; I got to have more group fun... kite flying, beach ball games, sand castle building!

YEAhh I love sand castle building more than anything. Hence my back and shoulders being the only part of my entire body with a massive tan. *oww*

I had heaps and heaps of fun in between this busy wedding season and Christmas preparations. 2 days of full PLAYY and back to work straight after; tiring.. but worthwhile. A well deserved holiday I would say so myself.

I really enjoy these trips we make with the extended family. I know more than a handful of people who dread them; but my family is awesome. Much to love!

We didn't get to see much beyond the beach; but getting my feet in the ocean hit me at my sweetest spots. *all smiles*

I like to think of my blog as a personal journal.. the world reads. haha the past couple of weeks of work at Delectable has made it almost impossible to sit down and update my picture albums and personal space.

This is the month of towering cakes. and i've got more this weekend; so this blog post will just be a blurp of tall cake pictures. Hmm.. i'm so busy; i don't know where to begin journal-ing.

My entire life didn't flash before me..

Had a probable near death experience on the roads last night.

Dark night.. thunderstorm...slippery roads on the highway.. countless zooming cars.. me impatient behind the wheel.. endless phone calls... annoying GPS voice....frustrated and tired boyfriend with his eyes shut in the passenger seat. In a turn of events; my confidence on the road was hit by a stroke of bad luck.

I remember my screeching tyres, frozen steering, and my arm stuck behind the wheel.
..I remember spinning.. and a host cars avoiding us. I had a chain of thoughts in my head "Don't hit us! Don't hit us! Don't flip! Don't fall into the cliff!" I could hear myself scream silently. The car hit the railing once at the back, and in the front.. I turned to look at him beside me.. the car spun and slammed sideways into the door beside me. Shocked just like me, he smiled and held my hand; not certain if it were meant to comfort me or himself, but it made the arguments we were having 30 minutes not relevant anymore.

I hear in movies and stories the most important events in your entire life flashes in your mind at the sight or fear of death. I hadn't any. My mind was too busy flashing imaginative images of all the things I had meant to do and had not achieved. That's a sign huh? I believe it is a sign.
I know now that I should be doing more with my life; fulfilling my responsibilities and listening to my heart more. I've only got one life that I can lead the way I choose.

I spent my next 24 hours thinking...
I havn't figured anything out yet..
Maybe in 48 hours? am I still in shock?

The Delectable elves OFF TO An ADVENtURE~

Just like Dora the Explorer,

We went on an adventure together!

My Delectable elves are a big part of why I love what I do. Look at them~!!! What’s not to love! Hehe!

They are a hardworking bunch with passion, commitment, wide smiley faces and big hearts. It’s very encouraging to be surrounded by positivity everyday.
Being the 'powerful' and spontaneous big Boss Elf that I am *grin *.. I cleared a full day off our schedules to fit in a day trip holiday together as a team! I figured we all needed some fun in the sun after many long hours we’ve pulled through the last couple of months.

On Sunday, mom and I made some calls and we spread the news! Whitewater rafting in Perak on Tuesday! 6 in the morning we head out! YAYYY!!!
Everyone was soOOo excited, I had a couple elves who couldn’t fall asleep that Monday from butterflies in their tummies! Haha
I packed everyone into a couple cars and drove ourselves 2 hours up north to Gopeng, A farmers truck brought the entire team of us from the center of Gopeng town through the villages, into the jungle and up to the hills....to...

Adeline’s resthouse, was our pitstop for adventure! A full day of food, Whitewater rafting adventure and a visit to their secret mammoth size waterfall in the middle of the woods!

By evening; we were all tanned, bruised and bushed.. it was time to take a drive to Ipoh (boss elf’s hometown) to gather ourselves some local specialties. THE FOOOD!! Pomelo’s, pastries and yummy hawker stalls. We had trouble fitting everything into our car trunks at the end of our shopping trip.

On the way back to KL, we were stuffed from dinner and the sun had long set…I heard little snores from the back of the car.. tired little happy elves… aw.. the battle scares and the sun burnt noses are all worth it. I’m so glad we got to spend time to play and get to know each other better. They have now an insight into how I grew up and where I came from.

3 days ago we all heard the news, I didn't have much of a recollection of who he was but I knew very well his achievements and how his innovations have made it to my fingertips for the past 5 years or so.

Recalling making my brave decision to convert back then...
An unforgettable first experience. I returned home and planted myself on the carpet of my studio apartment with my very first mac book. I felt so unsure.. will I be able to handle this.. what am I gonna do without no right click! *nonsense to me now* haha. I remember unravelling it's perfectly green and protective packaging... realizing how neat it was and how much thought was put into it. This is ridiculously AMAZING! A little white manual hidden inside greeted me with a "HELLO" in friendly bold font and as my beautiful new mac keys lit up.. I heard it... "Dwing!!!" Cheerful, ready and powerful! My heart raced in excitement, I've never experienced anything similar switching on an electronic device! Haha It was my window to everything APPLE. I felt confident I was never going to miss windows; this is easy! This laptop is so smart! It's keyboard is so perfect!
At the back of my mind I thought to myself, this is genius!! Mr Jobs inspired and drove these amazing innovations to our door steps... Genius.

Mind over Matter

Reading back on my recent ramblings, I've realized most of what I wrote about showed how much I miss being young and free.. I wrote about all these things that made me happy and how I don't have them anymore.

This is has got to stop now.

I have so much to look forward too and way too much to be excited about in front of me.. comparing level's of "satisfaction" or "happiness" is irrelevant! I have to move on and be proud of where I'm at.

People say the past makes you what you are and you should never forget, I say screw that shit. Haha, livE in the NOW su! it's mind over matter. The grass is greener right here; right now.

Tomorrow will be a new day for me. Come to think of it, lets make that tonight. :)

It's not just a job, it's not just cakes or my shops, Delectable is my life, and my delectable elves are my family...yummy and sugary sweet family *hehe*

The wise ol Yogi has a point. Hehe... i need some chill out time.

I love picnics! Back in the day, i would drag a host of my best pals with me to sprawl out on the lawn or on the beach. Didn't matter what we ate or if it came in a basket, being out in the sun and spending time with my favourite people was the whole point!

.... I shouldn't be using a term like "Back in the day"at 26 years... crap; i sound like a grandma -_-' Haha

I guess my lifestyle differs so much from when I was a student.

These days it takes me a long while to make special outing plans.. being "spontaneous" just isn't synonymous with "running a business". It really shouldn't be... I made a map in my head today, about each 24hours in a day that I have, and how I spend it on average; I decided it shouldn't feel so tiring or impossible to fit in some fun and games or sport!

I have a new mission to play tennis! I love the fact that it is outdoors compared to my weekly badminton sessions. And it does help to have my Man, who's a champion at the sport to help me with the game. I am still hitting it straight on with my wrists like in badminton... :P i know...i know.. it's not a shuttlecock,force of habit i suppose. I have to first learn to stop standing in the middle of tennis court! hahaha To the back SU! to the back! Maybe after getting hit once or twice in the head with a screwball I'll get it :P

In 1963, 16th September, the Malaysian federation was born.

but on the 31st of August Malaysia achieved its independence. So what day exactly do we wish our dear country a Happy Birthday?

It's been awhile since my return from foreign lands to settle back home with a new found adventure - Delectable. Initial months were tough.. so tough because I constantly felt that home was some place else. I left my love, my job, my hobbies, my friends and my lifestyle abroad with a heavy heart. I was convinced Malaysia wasn't my home anymore, I was stubborn.. arrogant and young. Though it seemed like there was nothing but my new business and my family to keep me going for awhile.. Malaysia won me over without putting up much of a fight. I made new friends, rediscovered old ones, found new hobbies and met a new love.... I guess you could say all it took was time. Everyone was right by saying "give it some time".
All I knew to cook was baked dishes, pastas, grilled meats, curries or stew.. but having now come home to local ingredients and a boyfriend who loves Chinese cooking; I had no choice but to get busy with new recipes and cookbooks!

He brings me on the occasional road trips he takes back home up north of the peninsula about 6 hours drive from the KL city. I've been gathering inspiring and fun ideas from these adventures too. He brings me to the famous eateries and places he grew up. I wondered if it was a hint to me that I should try to make this sort of food! haha

I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to 'authentic' local cuisine.. but I tried anyway.. I made laksa! ... from a packet. Hahahha.. I had to cheat a little to make the process more bearable :P
It was pretty simple once you get the fish and vegetables sliced right. Anyone have a good laksa recipe from scratch to share with me? haha I've got a feeling I might do a proper one in my next attempt.

It all began with a couple angrybird lanterns...

Okay.. I can start the story from the very beginning when my dad brought home a brand new Ipad..
But I guess it's simpler to cut to the chase.

I've got angrybird fever too! LOL..
As I was hunting down some paper lanterns at the supermarket for some festive Lantern mid autumn decorations at Delectable; a couple of these traditional cellophane lanterns caught my eye.. I thought to myself.. "OOoOoO cute!!!!" I bought one of each bird.. and a pig.. and realized.. hmm.. I'm not exactly going to light a candle and walk about town with these... so I thought, Lets show them off in the shop!

Sprouting from lanterns in the window; I started having daily angry bird cupcakes for the store shelves getting little plushie piggies for the display and going nuts with the lanterns! Haha.. I love hearing the kids from outside of our stores going "MOMMY MOMmy!!! ANGRY BIRRRRDSSSS!!!" They are even more thrilled to find angry bird yummies inside! Haha.. it's such a pleasure to hear excitement.

Now that we've gotten the kids happy and thrilled; i wanted to make fun box of 4 mooncakes for the mid autumn festival gifting tradition. Well... mooncakes.. but I didn't want to make the predictable cakes everyone is giving away! They had to be different.. but yet keep to a little hint of tradition and so I thought; lets turn our recent bestsellers, the GIANT macarons into 4 red bean, peanut and black sesame filled box of 'Mooncakes'! They go for just RM45 per set and we will have fresh sets in store for sale on shelf and pre order too if you like.

The festivities started off pretty late this year... but as the end of fasting month drew closer, we had a big surge of last minute raya orders and shoppers. The elves and I have been overwhelmed with customized orders, hampers, cookie requests and all sorts in the past week.

Ramadhan month is here again~ ... which means; yes.. fasting for the muslims begin; but on a brighter note; Hari RAYa is around the corner! YAY!!
There are plenty of things I love about Ramadhan month, most of them are available at ramadhan food bazaars! haha living in Malaysia is awesome! Growing up in a very diverse group of peers; I had the opportunity of learning and understanding different religions and cultures from a young age. I used to feel sad for them at recess break during school lunch periods.. aww... they don't get to eat!! :( haha but 10 years later; I get it now; I get why Muslims take such pride in their puasa (fasting). Inspires me to want to fast too! :)

Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection and worship. Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam and to avoid obscene and irreligious sights and sounds. During fasting intercourse is prohibited as well as eating and drinking, one is also encouraged to resist all temptations while you are fasting. Purity of both thoughts and actions is important. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. It also teaches Muslims to practice self-discipline, self-control sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate; thus encouraging actions of generosity and charity. (wikipedia)

There often would be a spread of food for the family and sugary treats after evening prayers at dusk. The "buka puasa" meal begins with the eating of a date, which is also a cultural habit for Muslims around the world.

I decided it would be a nice idea to plate together several Delectable items from our shelves and have them available as Ramadhan tasting platters for a family of 3-4 consisting of dates, an assortment of dried fruits, moist and spongey date and walnut parcels, caramelized cashews with a tiny hint of sea salt, chocolate covered gold cup cookies and a jar of tasty tasty pineapple tarts to get the Raya season started! hehe
The sets sell for RM68 in store on shelf. We've got limited sets available daily in both stores; so it'll be a good idea to call us in advance to reserve them. The beautiful Delectable yellow tray at the base is a freebie from us too! What better way to have dessert with the family.. Hmm.. :)

One day.. i will live in a big mansion, and take up golf..?

Eventually... there will come a time when I wake up to not much to do; but lounge around, sign a couple of cheques and think about a good time to take the dog out for a run or play some golf maybe? I have no clue specifically why..... but golf reminds me of rich people and fancy tea at fancy clubs with fancy umbrellas and little finger foods. *laughs* I have funny trains of thought. Must be all that American TV i watch with boys in ralph lauren, hugo boss and preppy hairstyles. Hehe.. the pastel coloured luxurious life of the blue bloods?

It isn't exactly the ultimate goal in my life to be rich; but sometimes it does make me laugh when I dream about waking up to such unnecessary luxury.
I imagine myself traveling lots for fun or work, having a supportive family and a comfortable home in a peaceful and beautiful part of town full of lush green surroundings and outdoor activities. That does sound like a golf course doesn't it? Haha..

Balancing my Cakes..

is a much easier task than balancing my life.With the right amount of support placed in the right accurate angles.. balancing a cake and it's heavy sugar components is easy.
I used to break a sweat conceptualizing these things; but it eventually gets simpler when I learn the basics well and make an effort to be thoughtful about details before I begin intuitively stabbing the cake with supporting dowels.
People love to ask; "WoW... how do you make it stand up like that?!" How does it stay straight in the car??" How do you get it so smooth?!" Well, it is all part an parcel of learning from the many "accidents" and mishaps with my cakes throughout my career. Every time something horrid happens; I console myself by thinking; "Well... at least I know this isn't going to happen again"

I can't seem to get past being an angry angry Su in recent times.
It's either I'm super sad; or super not?... or just super trying to be happy.
I'm going to get this fixed. I should maybe stop thinking of controlling everything about the way i feel and just.. be.
hm... that's an idea right there! YAY!

i have this sudden urge to host a spontaneous party. Just because..

....we know what you mean when you ask for a MACARON! hehe :) I've just recently put out GIANT Macarons up on shelf at the Delectable outlets (Gardens & Pavilion) and it has been taking off like hotcakes! My Delectable 'elf' pei fung and I can't make em fast enough! LOL
Customers are so amused at my oversized sweet french babies in their pretty little ribboned boxes! I put out just 3 flavours.. Just 3... but just 3 super yummy macaron choices! *RM10/box of one delicious palm size macaron

Being Malaysian and having pronounced it "roon" for all the years I've known what they were.. it isn't easy trying to switch to "ron" after i realized this French sandwich almond meringue pastry is often confused with the coconut cookies in America called macaroons!

The Angry birds Phenomenon

Being a long and faithful Blackberry user; I began noticing angry birds paraphernalia at shopping malls, gift stores, gadgets, markets.. they were EVERYwhere! Round red and triangular yellow pillows at the back of cars...toys hanging off children school bags and stationary.. all over the place! What are these crazy looking birds?!.. i didn't realize for some time that they were from a Catapult game on Apple mobile products. All my Iphone buddies have been kept busy and addicted to this... and I have just jumped onto the bandwagon when dad got himself an Ipad. Now the entire family takes turns beating each others high scores everyday! Haha mom's pretty good... but I've got an unfair advantage with spending half my teenage years being hooked on games like worms and gunbound; mechanics are so similar. Makes me an instant angry birds MasTER~ *grin*

About a month ago; I was so lucky to meet Jackie and Miyuki who requested for a unique wedding cake concept. They wanted something fun, different ... and ANGRY birDS! YAY!!! I was thrilled!

Being very careful not to go overboard with the decorating and the colours; I conceptualized something that still resembled a cake for a wedding. Their friends had sketched them 2 little cartoon characters which was used in the wedding invitations and decor. I made the cute image of them both as a couple into a 3D topper they could keep.
The cake was so much fun to make; and at delivery; her friends and family all looked at the cake and went... OoOooo angry birds.. that's SOOo miyuki! haha I wonder if they played with the catapult and the birds after the wedding dinner. hehe I would have... though it was all made of all sugar; it would probably have been a fun and yummy angry birds real life war!

I remember being very afraid of the ocean when I was a child. Just staring out into this vast unknown blanket of blue often made me fear what was beneath it's shimmery layers of reflection from the sun.
Whenever I was given a choice, i'd choose the swimming pool.. :)
Much has changed since I've made daring attempts at snorkeling and diving to see what amazing creatures lurked in those waters. Under the surface... it is often so peaceful. Yes.. big fish eat little fish.. and sea urchins are creepy crawlies.. but if you watch them in their natural environment; it is more calm more than anything!I love the waters so much more now.. I don't know about waves (still not too skilled with the surf), but nothing beats dunking my toes into cool waters on a hot day out. I should get myself a beach house someday. MmmMmm *dreams*

If you live in KL and you've not seen or heard or tasted Chatime; it's time to get out from under that rock you live in. Haha.The biggest trend since cupcakes about 6 years ago, Chatime has now made what we remember of bubbletea cooler, healthier and definitely 100x more delicious! .. *makes endorser face* LOL
Okay; what's the deal? Su doesn't promote restaurants, bakerys or review food... so what's going on here? Haha welllll...truth is; no, chatime didn't bribe me with anything to love them, chatime didn't pay me to write about how great their selection of drinks are, they didn't sponsor me to publicly state on my blog that they are the best tea's in town and I'm addicted to them... but they serve AWESOME stuff! and they have become my friends :)
I started off as a customer back in Sydney and my loyalty to chatime's freshly brewed teas and yummy fillings followed me home to Malaysia.
Oh I'm so happy they have Chatime in KL now!
There are Chatime outlets in Penang, Sunway pyramid, Pavilion, Timesquare, SS15, SS2 and their latest one in The Garden's Mall! YAY!! that's Delectable's home and where I work~ teehee*
They were very impressed with the fancy cake work I do; and decided to have a triple tier centerpiece cake from us during their launch at the Gardens midvalley outlet recently.A little secret about my love for Chatime also involves someone really special within the company. Su has a new boyfriend now.. but he's too shy to show. There's barely a hint of him at the back of this picture; but that's about all he's going to let me publish for now. heheBeing and falling in love does funny things to me and they are reflected so positively on my cakes and ideas. It was about time someone gave me a hand with mending my broken bits and pieces :)

Sailing away to new adventures~

... well; the title is just a fancy way of me saying I want to go on holiday to a different land! hehe
Despite my packed cakeful weekends full of weddings and events, I always make time to go away for a little to be refreshed and re-inspired. It is so easy at times to be buried in consistent mountains of pressure to perform and forgetting that sometimes the best way to come about a solution to a creative problem is to step back. Having breathers keep be passionate about my job; and I always return to it with brighter enthusiasm and a collection of new ideas from abroad.

I've been collecting photos and memories from lots of different places in the past couple of years. I might have a travel section written on my blog some day.. When I'm ready to write about my adventures of the WorlD~ haaahaha most of the photographs you'd see would be of Food though... food, desserts, beaches ... plants and more food... haha I can't seem to run far from my passion for photographing all things delicious.

I was incredibly excited to make wedding cake delivery to a coastal town 2 hours away from KL city last weekend! It was going to be beach themed wedding in pretty pinks and purples. Half the excitement was from the fact that I was going to have to drive to the BEACH! YAY!!!

Any excuse to have my toes in sand is very much welcomed. I miss how close I used to be to the ocean in Sydney.

Everyone has got a personal favourite. Blue hues, shades of green.. bright yellow and orange tones, a classic black and white? ... but nothing beats Pinks. All the ladies, young and old... (well maybe not all) but certainly; a big majority of them Love the colour in all different shades!
When I've got a variety of cookies, tins, or candies all laid out in multicolour icing, ribbons and packaging, the pink ones never fail to sell out the quickest! Haha..when i tie them in pink bows, they fly off the shelves in lightning speed.I don't exactly "dislike" the colour, I love the reddish pinks and deep fuchsia bold pinks. I make lots of cakes in Pink. Sometimes i step back from my work bench and think to myself..

"Woah... thats wayyy too pink..."

Hahaha it reminds me of princess dresses, cherry blossoms, grapefruit, cartoon elephants and ballerina tutus .. em.. ..LOL my mind is full of random thoughts!

The birthday boy had a tummy full of chocolatey gold! haha This Chinese themed golden ingot was sculpted with layers of chocolate sponge, dark ganache and vanilla buttercream. Even the mini gold nuggets popping out the top were edible too! I was covered in gold dust and lusters when I was finally done painting this massive hunk of gold. hehe!!

This cake was lots of fun, a very pretty lady had commissioned me to do a cake for her boyfriend who loved playing baccarat. He loves betting banker and that's why we had the winning hand placed there. I hope it was a nice surprise for him, the entire table and it's little trinkets on top were all made from cake and handpainted too! Deliciously sweet dealer fingers! *mmmm

NEW CAMERA!!!!

Well; not exactly a new CAMERA; but a new lens for my camera! WEeEeeeee!! hehe
It's a 50mm Sigma lens i've just gotten with good help from my friend P.A (Thank you!)
I had to replace a kit lens for my antique D60 Nikon that I broke during my recent travels to Japan. Snow... ice on floor.. Su slipping everywhere. Not a pretty sight; and just pure bad luck for my lens. :(

It was my first time making such an expensive camera investment in a long time but after fiddling with it in the camera shop awhile....

THIS shot, helped me conclude. YES. I WANT THIS ONE!! hehehe

Mr Android and I went over to The Deli; at Micasa to test out my new baby on some earl grey icecream, spongerolls and potato chips! MMMMmmm!

So it's been close to a month now.. that i've been using it and I can't complain; other than the fact it gets a little bit difficult with low light conditions and taking pictures of larger objects or wide angle scenery. I brought this little baby to Taipei; Taiwan with me 2 weeks ago; ...

....looked at the 101 through my camera and laughed to myself *crap*.. this is not going to work. LOL

Tired of CHocolate eggs for Easter

OH comE ON!!!
Every year as easter sunday closes in, supermarkets and gift stores start piling their shelves up with chocolate eggs of a dozen sizes and pastel shades.
Mm.. I suppose everyone loves a chocolate egg with bit of nuts and caramel, or a hollow divine tasting bunny from Lindt! Oh I could eat 10 of those bunnies in replacement of 3 meals. *guilty*

At Delectable this year; I wanted to do something fun! SOmething fluffy! Something colourful and yummy! After the good response we received for our bouquets at valentines day; I decided it might be cute to do a spray of themed easter cookies too! We have a ducky, chick, bunny, easter egg and a cute little plump carrot! To top it all off; I added a fluffy bunny plush toy on a stick! TOO CUTE!
They're going for Rm50 each set and are available on shelf or for pre order. Contact us at the Pavilion Mall outlet or The Gardens Mall to reserve them for the weekend. I've got limited fluffy bunnies; so be quick guys!

Cake decorator by day; Cookie Monster by night!

I LOVE LOVE LOVe LOVE cookies! All sorts of cookies, buttery ones, crisp or chewy , big and little, nutty, chocolate chipped, jam sandwich cookies?! OMG! those are the BEST!
.... mm.. awhile back in pastry school, I dreamt of covering an entire cake with an assortment of cookies. During our 'cookie+biscuit' baking sessions we always had SOOOO many different types to bring home at the end of class and i'd wonder, whATTt am I going to do with all this!

It's been 3 years since I left pastry school and I'm still constantly inspired by the thoughts I had back then. It was a family occasion; and I wanted something fun! yummy! and I wanted to do something different from the regular fondant covered cakes I'm used to at Delectable.
Off I went to the supermarket for a quickie sweep off the biscuit and cookie aisle...
I was on a mission to make a COOKIE CAKE! yay!!I messily covered one of my triple tiered 10 inch cakes with lots and lots of buttercream, opened up my cookie bags... and it was jigsaw puzzle - mosaic time!! SOOO much fuN! the designs I could do were endless! I specially picked our favourite cookies of different lengths and colours to make things interesting! Mom, dad and sis were incredibly excited to help decorate too.
I'm sure this is something anyone can do at home.
If you're feeling up to it; you can even BAKE your own cookies! ... but me? Mmm.. a little lazy to go through that hassle. Haha

Who's beautiful enough?

I'm at my usual chillout-work place; it's the weekend; to both my left and right are pretty young ladies with their bevy of friendly male clusters taking photos of themselves via iphone and handheld digital cameras. All is see is pose, snap, check. Pose, snap, check.. repeatedly for the past 20minutes. I don't think they've gotten a good picture of themselves yet. Or at least one which they feel makes them 'beautiful enough'

In this shallow shallow world of human beings we undeniably question this at several points in our lives.
Some (like me) find themselves thinking about it too often
and i suppose some of us choose to ignore the question out of pure confidence ... you smut!* hehe my jealousy speaking. Insecurities make up a big portion of my subconscious thoughts.

Our parents say to us as children *Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; you are perfect nomatter what others may say*.. and then mom turns around 20 years later with some make-up she thinks will make your ache scared face decent. LOL
It's such a vain thing to speak about. It's not a question you'll ever have an honest answer from anyone and everyone is probably going to give you the classic "WHy of course you are!" ... if they are decent people with manners at least.

People who check their reflection every alternate minute of the day probably are the epitome of those who have issues with being beautiful enough. It could be because they feel it is all they are good for; or they just love to gawk at the perfect view each time. I've even seen some drivers transform their reverse dashboard mirrors into a permanent place to check their hair or apply lipstick!

Of course there are some who have made 'being physically beautiful' a career and a responsibility, models, actors.. etc..etc.. but we 'the others' find ourselves comparing our far from perfect selves with images we idolize in the media. It's a natural thing to do; we're only human to be envious and to want better for ourselves. We like to think that pretty girls and handsome men get their way and we don't because of the way they look; we want to be bitter at them and imagine them living the life.... i'm doing it right now.. being a bitter little fat person because it feels nice to have something to blame for all of the unhappy things about my life. *LOL

Nomatter how much peptalk we drive into our own heads; we will end up watching someone else stroll by..compare ourselves to them and think *crap*... i need to get taller heels, a hair cut like that.. or maybe buy a designer handbag so I can look cool like her. I SAY PPPPFFFffffffttttt.
I can pfft all I want now; but I know the next time he pats me on the tummy and snickers again; I'm going to think *SHITT I need to stop eating food!! NOW!!*
I'm sure to him it's endearing.. and certainly not meant to be a hurtful gesture but I can't help but to beat myself up quietly about it. *So dear.. if you're reading this.. it's a Hint* :D
I've put on lots of weight since my uni days in Sydney when i had plenty time to be at the gym; eat healthy regular meals and watch my binging. I can't exactly remember how I've come to a shape like this. Things I'd like to forget. Haha.. happy times..

Starting tomorrow; I'm never eating again! Hahahhaha.. no! that's stupid, I'm ...er.. I don't know; I don't think anything is really going to happen tomorrow.

Cause mayyybe, the truth is.. I do think I'm enough. Not beautiful enough for everything or everyone.. but I'm so lucky to have what I've got; good health... head full of hair, all bodily parts.. and well.. plenty meaty goodness to keep me warm and cuddly. With some decent clothes and good make-up I'd be more than presentable.

No words can describe the way I feel about everything that has happened.
I go about my day, and not a minute passes by that I forget somewhere north east of where I stand; something so awful is amidst such a beautiful place.
I speak nothing of it to my peers and I stop at a couple phrases when I try. Though I have been incredibly curious to know if things have gotten better each time I log on to the news; watching videos and reading devastating details makes me want to look away in fear of the hurt I feel in my heart. I cannot help but watch, but each and every time.. I tear up and I lower down the screen on my laptop in prayers that the Japanese are stronger than I am. I know they are.
God; please make it better. The death toll; please let it stop.

The family and I just returned from Hokkaido, Japan, a little north of the worst hit region in Japan's coast.
We took long trips on the island train along the cliff with snow on our right and the ocean on our left. I remembered it to have some of the prettiest views I've ever encountered. To think; of the little family homes we went past; the fishing villages.. the schools and the quaint warm local eateries.. are they still there? I don't know; I've scanned the news... but I don't think I could handle the truth.
The wonderful people our family have came across and the smiling faces of the most courteous, cultured and honourable people I've come to respect.... are they okay? Are their families safe? I hope they are warm!.. the snow must be relentless at this time of year! It was the coldest holiday I've ever experienced!... gosh.. i don't think I'm going to write anymore.

I've never made a dragon before...

People love asking me which is the most challenging or memorable cake I've ever done.. Now when I hear that question again; this will have to be it!

Definitely the largest in terms of cake quantity; details and weight. OH MY GOSHh the WEIGHT of this thing. It was a baby whale!

My team of elves and I had been working on parts of the cake and it's components for close to a week! and I must say.. I'm so very proud of us. There were no drama's, everything looked great and we were on schedule and on time. It just shows how far along our kitchen and baking team have come along and we are now able to handle bigger challenges though they were child's-play. Okay I wouldn't dare say I wasn't stressed out! Of course I was!! haha
We wanted to make the cake as fresh as we could and so most of the work was only done one day beforehand. I barely slept that night. Not because I hadn't completed the cake... but more because of the excitement of making the delivery in the morning! hehe

The Founders Day charity event was held at Berjaya Times Square, KL and the cake was meant for Tan Sri Vincent Tan to celebrate his birthday. You can read more about the event and who this incredibly generous birthday boy is! THE STAR His charitable pledges took everyone aback that morning.. and I felt incredibly honoured to be given the opportunity to be part of it all.

Chinese New Year and a brief 5 day trip to Japan has gained me more kilo's than a year old child. *panic attack*!!! Now losing off this excess is going to take painful hours at the gym.. and well this probably also means goodbye to supper and happy hours at the beer garden. Life is fair.. I've had wayy too much fun.. and it is time for me to zip up that tight skirt and suck it in.

I've resumed my regular working hours but it feels a little strange for me this year; I seem to be extra hyped about bringing forgotten ideas to life. Traveling to foreign lands always inspire me. It isn't exactly just about the holiday without needing to work; for me it is about discoveries.. it is about new adventures! ... *insert mental image of Dora the Explorer*

I have to admit; in 2010, I had began tiring out a little, i gave up burning the candle at both ends and gradually gave in to social temptations and put Delectable's growth on hold as we tackled the festive seasons.
None of that now.. I'm fully charged and ready to take the from the beginning again. I started a super secret list that I've been adding to; file name: Game Plan 2011.doc. Haha IM PUMPED!!!
With the amazing elves at Delectable i've had this tern; I've been able to free up a little time to be inspired developing new fun things at our outlets. Micromanaging in the past couple of years made it difficult for me to concentrate on decorating our cakes, meetings and expansion plans all together. I've realized making decisions with a clear mind always makes me more confident with execution. Now i just need a magic wand which clears minds.. LOL
Come to think; it's been awhile since I made a video log.. haha I shall tomorrow! Recording myself makes me feel a little awkward. LOL *blush*

Not necessarily going out of my way to find 'fun' activities to do; but more making my work filled mundane days a little more interesting.
I was away on a teeny snowy holiday last week; and now that i'm home; i'm super pumped to get all this backlogged stuff out of the way.
Lets start with the cake pictures I havn't put out in awhile *giggle*
I had SOOO much fun doing the homer bust cake.. the batman cake stressed me out a little too much to relate it to fun haha but the elmo and cookie monster ones were the best!

Cartoon character cakes require such level of detail.. make them so much more difficult to do in comparison to something freeform or a personal design.

Lovey Dovey Stuff

I remember making handmade cards and folding origami hearts and flowers when i was in high school. I would give them to my classmates or friends on Valentines day... not really to ..like a "special boy"-person.. haha
I guess as we progress in age; Valentines day each year means something different each time. It could just be a time to eat lots of chocolate, or share presents, share emotions, cuddle?, it could also be a year to confess your love, propose to your soul mate, remind your loved ones you care.. or hmm.. have an excuse to go on dates to parade than new dress you've got in the closet. hehe.

I personally am not much into this Lovey Dovey stuff at my ripe old age of 'courtship'. haha but.. i suppose it's still nice to know that someone would want me to be their valentine. *giggle*.

HHhmmm... couples seem to relate purples to shades to Happy Matrimony. It is a trend? is Pink or White not a wedding favourite anymore? LOL

The Lunar new year is a mere week away; and everyone seems to have been hit by sudden realization that; There's so much to do, so much to buy, so much to plan!! About a week ago; the mall's were bare and there wasn't much excitement about town.. well.. our phones and inboxs have been going off the hook since Monday with requests and orders for Chinese New Year. Haha.. i was kinda expecting this to happen. Well; culturally, Chinese people in Malaysia are into gifting, sharing and visiting friends and family during this 15 day long celebration period.
Traditionally; a host of more auspicious/symbolic food items and home baked goodies are stocked up in the house as means of exchanging gifts with guests who come by. These include; mandarin oranges, apples, pomelos, pineapple tarts, peanuts, coconut candy, loveletters, glutinous rice cakes, lotus and arrow root, ginseng, mushrooms, birds nest, peaches, plums.. hmm.. what else? ...
Chinese new year is always a big one for Delectable; the elves and I are pretty pumped for a busy busy 2 weeks ahead.
Our initial gold basket sets I had out on shelf have sold out within a week! yay!! Not to worry though..I've put together more gift sets classy red and black trays with our products inside for the coming weekend crowd of last minute shoppers. I really hope there's enough to go around. As for Su; she has been busy as a bee finishing her corporate orders which have to be delivered within the next couple of days....and well.. gosh.. there's so much to do.

I have just recently completed a new display cake for our store front; so do come take a peek at my cherry blossom cave full of bunny rabbits!!! haha It's up at The Gardens outlet. COME SEE COME seee!!! hehe
Will probably make a couple more displays when I find a moment in between all this craziness.

Azalia's Dream Wedding - Come true.

This site is meant to be a compilation of only my photopoetry works if it were to stay true to its title but I can't help it here - I just got married, and just like a bride on her wedding day, I'd like to take this opportunity to be queen-for-a-day, again, this time on blogosphere. And queen-for-a-day here can only mean an overly-excited newlywed yapping away the littlest details of her wedding day like how the colour of her wedding gown was three shades lighter than the tone of her husband's scruffy hair.

And because the very idea of that would scare you as much, if not more, as it did me, let's put it this way - This entry shall stay true to the essence of photopoetry with these beautiful wedding photographs captured by amazing photographer Nik Aizu with teammates Shazni and Amir. These photographs may not be accompanied by a piece of poem but I believe that on their own, they talk of poetry.

It's amazing how that dream wedding I lived vicariously through my Barbie and Ken twenty years ago has been realized last Saturday, so simply, yet so magically. Not with any man, but a man who speaks my soul. My soulmate who also writes. And what else could all that be, but a hauntingly beautiful part of life written in poetic verses. Marriage is poetry; and I could not be more grateful to be blessed with its beauty.

I have always dreamt to be wedded in a small solemnization ceremony in a mosque surrounded by the warmth of all the beautiful people who played huge roles in the groom's and my years of growing up.

Alhamdulillah, in a small mosque down the road, it was. Filled with love and the smiles of our loved ones.

And for my love towards nature, sunshine, love, art, anything vintage and all things soulful, I could only dream of a small and intimate garden wedding reception outdoors filled with buckets of love and good music. I believe I could not have chosen a better place.

My wedding reception later that evening was held at a garden by the lake I grew up loving. My childhood bestfriend, Ayesha and I used to go swimming here every other week when we were twelve. And for the next ten years or so, my mother, my sister and I would frequent this place. Sometimes for a good swim, sometimes just to lie down on the grass and listen to the songs the birds sing. This was where we celebrated my mother's birthday, this was where my bestfriend and I shared a good laugh, this is where I write my poems, this was where I captured the shots which had been used in this postcard and that, and this was where he proposed.

Last Saturday, this was where we celebrated our marriage.

I am beyond touched at how my loved ones travel (some, literally halfway across the world) to witness this special day of my husband's and mine. Especially to think that this "garden by the lake" was quite deep inside all of those greens that I love and talk about so much.

There was my charming aunt who flew all the way from England, a cousin from Chachoengsao, friends and old workmates from Australia, and a whole beautiful bunch of family and friends who came from several different corners of Malaysia.

What was beyond beautiful was to be reunited with my favourite cousin, Alida again after ten years. Especially on a day so magical to me.

And I can't even begin on how grateful I am to be blessed with such wonderful, selfless family and friends who helped so much with the wedding reception.

Because of my love towards having every little thing made personal and sentimental, I had almost each single bit of my wedding sprinkled with my own crafts, my mother's, my father's, my sister's, my grandparents', my uncles', my aunts', my cousins' and my bestfriends'.

I began by inviting my loved ones to the reception with an invitation I fully personally designed. They were sealed in brown environmental-friendly envelopes which had tiny heart shapes and music notes I personally doodled.

The mini garden baskets with tiny purple flowers were personally crafted by my mother, with the help of my dearest sister and my wonderful aunts. The baskets had rose-shaped chocolates in them, and were made as doorgifts for the wonderful souls who graced the garden with their presence.

I am at loss for words at the amount of passion and love my mother put to this wedding. I am moved to tears at the thought of how much she wanted it to be like the way I dreamt it with my Barbies and Kens twenty years ago.

It was no wonder then that the wedding turned out beautiful. My mother was behind it. Just the way she always is, to all things beautiful.

The beautiful lights and lanterns all over the garden was magic done by my creative Uncle Al, together with Uncle Shah, my mother, Aunt Shyda and the rest of the wonderful team. Amazing how they turned my wedding night into a fairytale dream come true.

The wedding cake was made by a very talented childhood friend of mine, Su, who now runs the amazing designer cake shop, Delectable. Su and I used to sit next to each other at our tutorial classes back when we were twelve. And to have Su baking and designing my wedding cake was an honour. It truly meant the sun and the moon to me.

No surprises, she did magic with my cake. It was designed in the wedding theme colours, together with the cartoon doodles of my husband and myself which I earlier designed for the wedding invitation cards.

The emcee who graced the night with her beautiful ways and made the guests comfortable in a semi-formal casual manner was my very own kind-hearted cousin, Vic. She has her way with words, has a beautiful soul, and is simply a gem. But more than anything, she is a sweetheart whom I love dearly, and would share warm hugs with every other morning we bump into each other before work.

What also made the night special was a short, heartwarming speech specially made by my Aunt Shyda who flew halfway across the universe for this joyous occasion. A very compassionate and thoughtful lady, she is. Blessed, I am, to be loved by an aunt with such a soul.

The guitar which set the mood of the music for the night is my father's, and the items in the playlist throughout the night were also inspired by my father's musical soul. I spent dreamy days and months before the wedding telling him how much I wanted my reception to be completed with songs by The Beatles. And each of these dreamy days and months would always be accompanied by beautiful childhood memories brought alive to mind.

And with all the heart and soul there were for the night, I then recited a poem I wrote for my husband. Of which he replied with a song he wrote when he proposed to me earlier last year.

A dream wedding indeed.

One in my favourite colours; surrounded by nature, love, art, music and beautiful souls whom I love dearly.

To top it all off, I got to walk down the aisle with my husband in what I reckon should be a theme song for the universe, All You Need Is Love. This, I have to admit, has always been my secret dream, especially after seeing it happen in Love Actually.

Alhamdulillah.

I truly could not ask for more. And I could not thank you enough for all the help you've given, and simply, for being there. And if you weren't, believe me, you were still a part of it. For I had you in my thoughts throughout the night.

I can now only look forward to fill the pages of this site with even more photopoetry I'll create for my husband; my soulmate who also writes :-)

Gearing up for Lunar New Year 2011

It's a little quiet don't you think?The lunar new year is a mere 2 and a half weeks away; but there isn't much excitement just yet.
Yes the annoyingly loud "dong chiang" music; yes the decorations up at shopping malls.. yes the clothing outlets have "CNY sale" signs popping up; but has mom begun hanging red trimmings about the house? of are the aunts coming by with homemade cookies yet? Is dad home with the new pieces of furniture? ...hmm..
I believe everyone is just getting Christmas out of their system .. hehe. School has just begun and well; the kids and just starting to settle down.Well... IT"S TIME PEOPLE!!! CHINESE NEW YEAR IS HERE!!! haha
It's time to get the family together to go shopping~ to spend time preparing and planning for the year of the rabbit! I want to say BUNNY... because it sounds fluffy-er *giggle*

So Delectable has been getting pretty excited about CNY too! I've got lots more coming up; but I figured I might as well start everyone off early with some New Year goodies~

Some people say it's Chicken Soup; for Su.. it's Lasagna.

..... Su chooses to feed them lasagna instead! ;)

For many years I've cherished my ability to bring smiles to many from my homemade lasagnas. I make them with passion, love and of course.. lots of mozzarella! *mmmMmm..smacks lips*
I've spent most of my new years eve and first week of the 2011 making cakes and fulfilling orders for events; etc. However, with the little time I had in between... I did make time to watch an old movie.. take drives to no where and hang out local bars for a glass of wine or stout. One of these silly escapades led me to revisiting an old favourite movie of mine; Ratatouille! Hehe remember the little rat master chef? I remember watching it for the first time and looking at the expression of joy and passion he had from everything he held. It was inspiring. The zucchini, the eggplant, the tomatoes.. the fresh herbs and all that jazz! OH I HAD TO COOK SOMETHING!~ haha
I miss cooking so so much.. now that my full time job ties me down to sugary sweet things; it's difficult to make time for things like making roasts, stews and pastas I used to love.

It was the beginning of a new year and everyone in the family had been on their toes with work. My Delectable elves have been working themselves to the ground at Christmas and well I had some friends who needed cheering up and i suppose a special person I had been meaning to impress.

What better way to show some 2011 'love' than to bake loads and loads of lasagna for everyone at lunch! I initially believed the ingredients I bought was worthy of feeding an army;... but as the servings were dished out and little portions were distributed around.. *sigh*... I came to realize.. my friends and family can eat.. ALOT of lasagna! A day later; I had already began hearing "When are you making some more!?" haha
I don't know if I'm ready to part with my signature white and red sauce secrets... ...hehe..

..but I can tell you the trick to good lasagna is not to skim on the ingredients. In this instance; I made a vegetable+mushroom lasagna.. so you've got to put lots and lots of layers but remember to slice them thin to make sure they cook through. Also remember the mushrooms got to be thick to give bite! I used 2 types; portabello and button shrooms.
Don't forget; if you're using vegetables like mushrooms, tomatoes and eggplant; they excrete natural juices when they cook; so you've got to make sure your sauces are thick and not watered down, if not you'll end up with too much liquid in between the layers.
I would probably do a full write up on my lasagna; with step by step instructions on day; but as for now.. I've got a hint for you; ORegano.. fresh roughly chopped oregano! You got to have it on there!

Me? Power? Come on! That's ridiculous!!

Poised for Power. Wahhhhhhhh.... hahaha I had a sacarstic smirk on my face when i read it! LOL As i browsed through the entire wall trying to find a picture of myself (how vain!) hehe I recognized so many many famous faces! I was starstruck.. i thought to myself.. wow.. I'm on the wall with THESE people?! Mindblowingly humbling experience for me.
It was an honour.. okay wait.. a great great honour to have been picked as Prestige magazine's Top 40 under 40. And to be the youngest of the 40! OMG! that's ridiculous! *proud grin*
There were corporate CEO's, world class atheletes, actresses, internationally known music artists, scientists and inventors with knowledge to change mankind.. and I... the baker girl who makes Delectable cakes! Haha.. seriously; i was just incredibly humbled and amused to be part of it all.
Congratulations to the rest of the 39! Who some of which are my customers and dear friends; and some who I look up to as example.
My parents and sis came along to watch.. and I got to get on stage for a tiny 'throphy' which I will keep forever!!

35 minutes before it turns 2011

Here's the thing 35 minutes isn't quite enough for a 'moment of reflection', 2010 has been kind... it has filled me with several momentous events, it has tortured me with it's mere 365 days and well.. turned me a quarter century old!

Hmm... i wouldn't say i had started the year with 'resolutions' in mind; but I definitely had gained a lot more than what I had expected in a years worth of happenings. One of the more significant lessons of self discovery that I've gathered would be that time doesn't heal wounds; the only thing that helped me heal was the decisions I made and how I stuck to them through every doubt. I understood what acceptance was and I also discovered how closed doors only leads to discoveries of many new opened ones. You just got to know where to look! and well.. I've learnt to be a pro at spotting them.

I want to wish everyone a quick Happy New Year! ... stop thinking about what you've had up in 2010; or what you did or did not do.. Look forward; it's a clean slate... now lets make this one a masterpiece!

Talking in Code

There is nothing more public than a blog. Like this one. Heh.. will let you guys in on a small secret about my writing.Since.. maybe the last year or so; I push in occasional slots about my private life; but in 'code'. Closer friends of mine would read particular blog posts and giggle.. smirk or.. go *pfft* hahaha Cause they know what's going on in my head! :)
At the end of the day; this is my journal... it does follow me through my baking life; job and plans with Delectable; but i also very much want it to be a personal space where I can note down significant happenings in my personal life.
Several years ago; I would have probably just went "OH YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!! ..BLAHHH blah blahHh" well; in many instances; that has sorta eventually backfired and came back to haunt me. It bothers the people I speak about.. and it bothers my parents that everything I do is publicly shared. It's a love hate relationship. I love it when people come up to me to tell me how significantly they remember a cake from the stories I told about it from the way I felt when I made it.... and I hate it when they occasionally make assumptions about my personality from what they read online. I mean... seriously.. is everyone with Internet access out there a part time psychologist ? *grin* I've got very VERY sweet readers actually.. most of them are full of praises and encouragement. I would say ALL of them are... other than the occasional "I THINK i HATE you" email i get once a year from random 'anonymous' individuals. *shrug* those are forgettable *wink*
10 years down the line; i want to read something I wrote and think to myself.. ahhh I was describing this.. this and this.. Hmmmm maybe one day I will decode all my writing for the world to see! hahaha but not yet.. not yet.. I'm not in a point in my life where I'm comfortable doing that. *giggle*Well... sometimes talking in code is tiresome. So ... I'm just going to say as it is.
I've fallen in love with a man.
I can't say who cause he'd be coming after me with a cleaver! but i can't tell you how good in feels to be able to fall in love again. We've got some good times and many many bad ones.. but I've got a feeling it's one of those which gets better in time. I thought it'd never happen this way. But I'm so happy it did. He makes me laugh and he makes me cry. He's got a hold of my heart and I'm not too certain what I would want to make of this. .. ...
I might have even picked the wrong person to fall for altogether! haha; I'm a pro at that type of thing... *sigh* unfortunate.

Acting on Ideas

I remember so many instances where i would get excited from a sprout of inspiration, I then develop them into ideas, talk to someone about it.. and then I get busy with a completely different matter. Well, the idea isn't exactly forgotten then... it's in the to-do list! Problem is; this list of mine is growing by the minute! i gather that it is a closet I'm never going to end up cleaning up. *sigh* Some of them have gone to never-never-land.
There are great things up in there; and I suppose my first step is to determine the better ones and organize myself to see them thru. Am I just too lazy? I don't like to think that; but it seems to be the blatant fact. I can point my fingers at multiple possibilities of my lack of motivation; workload on the job; gym and social time; exhaustion; inaccessible resources... gargh.. here.. see i'm making up excuses right now.
I should stop thinking of the many reasons why I'm not doing what I should and focus on actually coming up with action plans. We all should!
It's christmas eve tonight and I just managed to squeeze in a couple hours to blog. I'm eating my dinner in the car on the go.. drink in hand and a quiet merry christmas to myself. I've got a wedding cake waiting on me when I get back to the kitchen. It's going to be a long Christmas morning for me. I wonder if Santa's gonna come by to bid hello! I should leave out some Delectable cinnamon cookies to lure him in. *giggle*
When i was little; sis used to kill my Santa fantasies by showing me how wrapping paper in mom's office will turn out to be identical to the wrapped presents which magically appeared beneath the tree on Christmas morning! Haha Sis was just too smart.. I was just happy there were packages to rip open with barbie dolls inside! haha Yea... i loved barbies when I was younger; mom and dad helped me make up a big big collection of dolls and paraphernalia I have no heart to part with.
MMm I miss Christmas as a child. I now find myself worrying about action plans; world domination with cake ideas. ... pfft*... where's the fun in that!! I want a BARBIE DOLL NOW! *grin*

I do Disney.. Do you?

Other than the fun experiences I've had at Disney World (Orlando, Florida) in several stages of my life; I can't say I've got personal favourites when it comes to all things Disney.

You see... I've always been a Pixar fan.. most of the younger TV days were always tuned into Cartoon Network.. and I remember how I never really understood what Donald duck went on about. Haha OKayy.. so Disney made a couple cool childhood memories too.. Like PEter PAN!! little mermaid was pretty awesome; beauty and the beast was good....Aladdin.. mmm... but stuff like sleeping beauty? Hannah Montana?... seriously?.. no. *snicker*
Well it's safe to say, at this point of my life.. I am not exactly standing in line to see the first screening of Toy Story 3.. or going nuts over a Disney princess Tshirt and well.. reason being; I just am not into fairy tales as I used to be. Of course cartoons and fantasy is heaps of fun.. and everyone would be lying to say there isn't a child in all of us who would smile from cuddling a fluffy plush Winnie the Pooh doll.

Making these cakes are pretty nostalgic for me.. Not so much the new age stuff like Dibo the dinosaur and Animal Mechanical from Playhouse Disney; but more of the Mickey themed characters.

I always remember Mickey's voice to be so distinct; I used to think ... wow, that's what a Mouse would sound like if it spoke. Hahahahah silly 5 year old su.
A fair number of mom's come in here knowing exactly what their children want for their cake. Mickey and Friends! they like to say... I then continue with the question; How old is your girl/boy?.. 1. hahaha the cake is more for the Mommy than the baby wouldn't you think?
Can't deny how Disney has got themselves implanted permanently into many hearts and inner-childs in so many of us. Mmm i'm looking forward to more Disney cake requests to come! I'm just going to be better and better and makin em!

Guess what guys! Christmas draws close; which means our family of Delectable PENGUINs are back! YAY! It's been a tradition for us at Delectable to be making sugar penguins frolicking in snow each 'winter'. I say 'Winter' because with having Malaysia spot bang on the equator.. there isn't actually a winter. Haha
...But that's no reason not to imagine ourselves in a frosty white snow capped mountain with penguins, snowflakes and beautiful Christmas trees! Well of course these mountains in question are made of our famous Delectable English fruitcakes! *giggle* YUmmz!
I love making miniatures and gift parcels for Xmas. I often take a moment to just stare at each of the little cakes once i'm done. They are just so cute!!! I personally couldn't imagine biting into one of my own sugar penguins. *cringe* .. they.. they are my friends... *blush* hahaha

*random unicorn cake I made last month.. Mmmm i think she's a fat lil cutie :P

From as far as Canada to new Zealand, Tokyo to Brazil and beyond places I've ever imagine setting foot on; this blog of mine has brought me friends.. experiences and treasured tales of those who feel connected to me in baffling ways! I sometimes log on; and think "Hello WORLD" each time load up the page to type up a post. It's just mindblowingly surreal and humbling to know that there are few out there who enjoy my work and look to see something inspiring each time there's an update-(which I realize I've been taking so freaking long to do in recent weeks)

Now with the shop up and running in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; local blog readers and supporters of Delectable from the region have made their way to show love and encouragement. I must note; they have all been invaluable to me. Those from out of state; and well..Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, East Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia.. OMG!!! THANK YOU *does a crazy jap style kow-tao*

Cake and dessert lovers from all over have brought Delectable love to us; kids from South Africa, Japan, the States, England, Norway.. (I'm sorry if i've missed out any >.<) They get desserts; take pictures... sign our guest book and bring our exclusive Delectable merchandise home with them to their countries. It's amazing... I still am in shock at times...and how all this is possible! Haha before I had the video logs up; they used to comment that they were curious on what my voice might sound like; or if i had an accent. Most the time; they said it was not what they had expected of me from my photographs and line of work! *scratches head* i hope they mean it in a good way! :P

Several months back; I received a note from a cute little lady from Taiwan. We did have a couple issues communicating; but my basic Mandarin and her basic English got us into hours of conversation! hehe

Didem and her partner were incredibly delightful! It was amazing to discover little silly things that were so similar between us! haha It all comes with the job i suppose. When we met; she told me she knew EVERYTHING about me... from my very first blogging days till today.. and yea i guess it was kinda creepy to think that; but you know what... i felt an incredible connection to her! hehe and NO it had nothing to do with the delicious Turkish delights she brought from Istanbul! *sly eyes* hahaIf you take a look at her work with cookies.... WoW.. it's pretty incredibly. She's definitely got loads of talent and dexterous fingers!

I almost fear thinking of myself being the last one standing. Haha

From the industry I work in; I scan through countless magazines and printed material and blogs about weddings; generally looking for trends and keeping myself updated specifically. Now what we've mostly got are resources online which share valuable information and contacts.
One of my favourite new haunts happen to be Wedding Guide Asia. It is a bridal portal run by the beautiful and incredibly charming Stephanie Chai. She's just mindblowingly inspiring; this pretty lady has got it all. If you haven’t heard of Stephanie Chai, she’s a top model and TV host here in Malaysia. She had the idea of starting up a bridal portal after she became maid of honour for a friend of hers.. and found that there was a need for a web portal like this!
After having a coffee or two with Stephanie; Delectable now has a directory page listing in the Little White Book and we’re looking forward to having our cakes featured on Wedding Guide Asia soon too!
If you're going to be married soon; or if you've got plans.. it's a good idea to check them out. I just go on to browse for fun; and for work... I suppose... till one day my prince charming comes along; and I need to actually put it to full use. *dreamy grin*

Seriously thinking about making "Delectable" macarons.

There has been more than a handful of people requesting for us to have macarons up on shelf at the Delectable stores.
I've been using them in our Delectable events; catered parties, even cascading over wedding cakes!
From the beginning of the year up till about just recently; I've felt the macaron craze from different parts of the world. It didn't take Malaysia long to jump onto the bandwagon.
I've been seriously thinking about making a mini macaron bar at our stores. Have been working on the idea the past couple of days.
Let me know what you think. Are you into macarons? If yes; what flavours.. if not; Why?

Raya is here again!

A year has gone by so quickly! I remember over the last season how we scrambled over finishing our raya hamper baskets and organizing myself for the seasonal changes in the store.
I've done a something a little different in comparison to our sets last year; instead of purely doing hamper baskets, I tried to incorporate more full cakes as gifts in this season's raya. It was really well accepted and I'm probably going to develop more on this for festivities to come.
The Delectable outlets have been spilling with our packed corporate orders ready to be shipped and picked up... the raya craziness is almost over now.. and I've already been making plans for mooncake festival! You see many many mickey mice? haha yep; that's all Ive been looking at all week! Working annually with Disney Asia on gifts is super fun! We're allowed to add plenty colours and fun trinkets! Their unconventional styles makes it exciting for me each season throughout the year.
Anyhoo...speaking about mooncake festival; I've planned something specifically for the season too! ;) The specials will be out on shelf in the next couple of days! It's best to keep updated with our specials on (follow) twitter and via (add) facebook.

The untold stories behind each Delectable TREAT.

I've always got so much to say about each and every Delectable item on our shelves.
It is of course because I created their flavour components. But another less obvious reason is because I relate to each of them on a personal level. Like how?
Well...
I thought it would be a good idea to convey some of those stories here.
It'll be pretty funny if you start to think about these treats the way I do. Haha I believe Dessert should be about how it's tastes affect the way you feel; how they trigger pleasant memories or thoughts. I'll tell you my secrets on why they make me smile :)

Trifle Treat RM10

There used to be a constant ringing in my head, "BOO! Make trifle!" That would be my sister.
It's what they call me at home "Boo" haha. Sis doesn't make food; but she knows how to make her cravings heard. I'm the little sister who makes the food *LOL*
When we were little; mom would make trifle in huge 'lock-n-lock' containers and we would wipe them clean with 2 spoons and an hour session of Cartoon Network.
Mom and her siblings were educated in the UK; and I suppose making trifle as dessert was a thing they picked up from living in London for so many years. There's nothing like buttery and rich cake hidden in yummy berry jello filled with fruit and topped with creamy vanilla custard! Sigh* the whole combination is genius! Dad really likes trifle too; mom and dad met while studying in the UK..... .. but that's another story all together! hehe

Tim Tam truffles RM4

These little gems on sticks shot me from baking for fun to baking for business while I was in Australia. Back then; making them into little bouquets felt like a fun thing to do for my blog. I've even got a video of me making the truffles! hahaha it's so funny when I watch it now!

I was walking down the street to uni with a bouquet of truffles in my hand and a lady sitting al fresco at the cafe outside of my home became very intrigued with what I had with me. I explained that they were something I had made for my friends at Uni and I offered her one. The next day; she had the cafe owners track me down for my contact number and before you know it; I began selling these on a weekly basis to people who would place bookings for my truffles!
They are really fun to eat cause it tastes almost like a chocolate cheesecake + timtam cookies crushed together! Not too sweet; a tiny bit indulgent and just a little tangy from the cheese. If you love timtams; you gotta try this one!

Moist Chocolate loaf RM30

This recipe was my solution to all unhappiness at home when I was at UNSW with my dearest housemates. Out of the string of girls I've lived with and grown very much attached to down under; I don't remember a single one of them who wasn't happy to see this chocolate cake on the kitchen table. Exam time, boyfriend trouble time, paying up rent time.. .. or whatever the trouble may be.. each time there was someone who needed cheering up; I would pull this out and there will be laughter and giggles all over the kitchen island bench top instantly. I really loved baking this because it reminds me of the amazing time we spent together and the friendships we've created to last forever. It doesn't matter how different our paths may be in the future; I'll always be their 'mommy' who makes chocolate cake each time they whine for something yummy in the oven.

Meringue Candies RM8

Just 3 years ago; I was certain I was destined to never be able to make meringues. At the time; eggwhites were the enemy... and I tried over and over again to bake them till we became best friends. That never happened. Not until I went to pastry school and realized the mistake was in my arm, and not so much the recipe. *sigh*
I sell tiny little piped meringue candies in the store cause they remind me of Jo. I would either get him a bag of mini meringues or a toffee apple each time we went grocery shopping together. Jo has a sweet tooth and it helped keep him enthusiastic about the shopping and carrying of bags after. ;) I loved watching him tear open the bags the minute we got home to dig out his treat/reward with a big big smile.
I wanted very much to make meringues successfully because I knew he loved pavlova more than anything. Everytime he caught me sitting in front of the oven with a pout close to tears... I remember how Jo always was full of encouraging words. He would pat my head and say "Awww... poor baby; it doesn't matter, we've got a little more, you can try again; or we can just get meringues from the supermarket" hehe Jo was a gem.
Well; I can finally make meringues now!~ and they're just as yummy as the ones I used to buy for him at the supermarket ;) My Delectable candies even have coffee flavour to them too! Eggwhites and I are no longer enemies! yay!

Over-Cooked Eggs

I really hate it when my pastry baking flops from improperly baked eggs. My yolks were supposed to be runny! and they would have been if I watched the oven like I should have!
I like em gooey and deliciously flavourful. Full .. of yummy cholesterol goodness *giggle*

Salmon Egg-y puff pies

6 4'x4' Frozen Puff pastry squares
3 slices smoked salmon
3 eggs
3 tbsp of grated mozzarella
Fresh oregano (roughly torn)
a dash of flake sea salt
cracked black pepper

Preheat oven to 180degrees celcius
Slice 3 pastry squares into 4 strips each. Place the other 3 squares onto a baking tray.
Use strips to form a square tartlet on the 3 base squares (refer to photograph). Press down a little to stop leakage on the corner seams.
Divide cheese, smoked salmon and herbs into the 3 prepared tart cases. Gently break an egg into the center of the tart, being very careful not to pierce the yolk.
Immediately place in the oven and cover loosely with a sheet of foil over the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes until eggs begin to cook slightly but still remains runny; pastry should be puffed at this point. Remove foil; Sprinkle with pepper and herbs; bake uncovered for another 5 minutes until golden and crisp on the corners and eggs are a little jiggly.
Serve immediately! some put ketchup on this. I would have mustard instead.

I filled these with the best smoked salmon, expensive cheese and freshly bought herbs. They were supposed to come out SUPER. Well.. they didn't cause I was careless. I feel pretty bad when I see good yolks go to waste. Got bored? complacent? didn't watch the timing and the oven temperature..
Yea; I am beating myself up about it... and yes; I'm also talking in code.
This post isn't about the my eggs; or their yolks; or my inability to make puff pies. It probably is about the person I made them for, how he loves eggs runny and how we've 'over-cooked' our fun times together.... It's only a probability. *shrug* ;) hahaha
I'm just tired of having bad overdone eggy-pies now... dwelling comes to a halt. moving along! I need GOOD eggs; not bad ones! LOL
Will have an obsession about strawberries instead tomorrow. *wink*

Try the egg-ypie recipe! They taste AWESOME! reallly! If you don't like salmon; fill it with roast chicken or peas even! Filling combo's probabilities are endless!

That would be me describing Xin Lim at first thought.

She's super super talented and is such fun to work with. People ask me about my branding and the yellow stripes at Delectable a lot. Well today... I want you to meet the person who came up with them for us!From the very first day we sat down to talk about starting up www.delectable.com.my; to having her design our namecards and corporate logos; I had fallen in love with Xin and all her brilliant ideas. Not only did she understand what I had in mind for Delectable completely; she added value to the many concepts I only had for our store. Needless to say; I wanted very much for her to be a part of delectabletreats.com.my as well. She always picks the perfect colours; a master of simplicity and clean lines, pedantic with finishing details, is always on time and shows up in the prettiest dresses topped with a perfect smile; seriously.. what's not to love?!

Xin is special to me. Getting emails from her, opening the attachments and having her come by the store for visits are thrilling and always extremely pleasant. She inspires me more than she can imagine and I respect her as one of Malaysia's best talents. Working with her and her creativity is truly motivating and humbling. Having her offer hugs and a helping hand to me at my lowest times is an honor. She's one of the few who can smile and say "It's gonna be okay" to me; and make me actually believe it. Haha
Happy Birthday precious Xin! I know you're going to do SO GREAT in anything you choose! Despite my stubborn self and lack of patience for anything she's managed to put on a cheery disposition through it all. *giggle* I guess we can be friends for a long time to come huh?

Thinking Big

I'm a preacher of all 'little things'. Guilty.
That's what everyone tells you and constantly reminds you "Don't forget the little things"... okay.. it probably is because the big things seem obvious as a focal subject.
For all those just like me, who love to dwell in the beauty + satisfaction of finding joy from the little things... i've got 3 words for you; WHERE'S THE BIG? You're losing the whole POINT of how all these little things came about. haha

It's the same way I look at large wedding cakes I make. I focus so much on ideas; little details and colours, contrasts... but when it comes down to stacking and shaping; I go... "oh; wait, let me work out how exactly I'm going to make this come together"
The joy I get from being a part of such beautifully crafted weddings are indescribable. Being the 'cake' and the centerpiece; is so much pressure; it always feels overwhelmingly heartwarming.

On a personal level; I've been making it a habit to never lose the big picture. It says in blinking neon lights on a 10foot billboard; DELECTABLE by Su *laughs* Well.. not literally; I want so much to bring my new found aspirations for Delectable to life; It's been a little more than a year now; before I know it; it's going to be 2 years! I've brokendown; torn myself up and now created a brand new me to continue this journey of mine. It's time to GO GO GO! Like a never ending race; and an infinite finish line.... might make a pit stop occasionally for a pedicure or pint of draught in the evening. *shrug* I sincerely believe ill tire out eventually; Jo thinks I never will have enough... he's had enough of me though; been flying solo for more than a month now. Didn't think I'd compose myself so well this time around. I suppose Fool me once; shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me.

This blog of mine will probably never display my personal ideals or perspective on local politics. *laugh*
But then again.... this post is about the faith I have in 1 Malaysia and our Prime Minister on his birthday last weekend. From initially having 2 weddings to maneuver; I eventually landed myself into a 6-cake situation all due about the same time. Needless to say; there wasn't much sleep or eating going on that weekend for Su. haha
Cake requests for the Prime Minister's office and private residence came from left and right. All of them on short notice and I could only make promises I was confident to keep. It was a hectic weekend for the elves and I; my family was helping enthusiastically as well. We did them with pride and we gave each cake all the effort we could afford. This was pretty exciting! It's my first time creating 4 cakes for the same person! haha
Datuk Najib Tun Razak; our PM believes very much in the 1 Malaysia campaign; which many of his supporters have requested the cake to be it's logo and cakes which represented the 1 Malaysia idea. I personally love the idea of 1 Malaysia :)

1Malaysia strongly to emphasizes national unity, ethnic tolerance. The 2010 values of 1Malaysia as articulated by Najib Razak are perseverance, a culture of excellence, acceptance, loyalty, education, humility, integrity, and meritocracy.^[2]

I have just naively wrote a short note to our PM. I do wonder if he'll ever read it personally.
hehe.. I was about to forward it to him via the public voice website for 1 Malaysia.. but *shrug* it would be funny if he ever did respond.

Happy Belated Birthday to you! I hope you had a pleasant celebration with your family and friends last weekend.

I’m sure you are very busy and have an extremely tight schedule so here’s a brief Hello from me. My name is Su; I’ve just recently returned to Malaysia from my studies and travel abroad and have begun a small business selling designer cakes and desserts in several shopping malls about town. I run Delectable by Su; and bake fancy couture cakes for weddings, birthday and the sort.

In the short time that I’ve been back; I’ve come to realize and appreciate the true beauty of our country; the people and its diversity. Just like the many Malaysians who stand behind your projection of 1 Malaysia; I strongly believe it’s ability to cultivate a wonderful country to call home in years to come. I want to take this opportunity to share with you the photos of the cakes that I’ve been commissioned to create for you by those who trust and love you dearly as well bid you a grateful “thank you” for the work and commitment you’ve selflessly put into bringing 1 Malaysia to life for us.

Su + the Delectable Elves

Whilst delivering the cakes in the morning; dad and I had a joke in the car..
It was pretty early in the morning.. and we were to drive the cake to his private residence where deliveries were made to the kitchen. I said to dad;
It would be major cool if I bumped into Mr.PM perched over the breakfast table with his morning coffee, toast in hand, striped pyjamas and his newspaper. He'd look up and I'd wish him a big wholesome; HappY BIRTHDAY!! haha imagine him putting his toast down.. smiling and holding up a peace sign responding with a "YO!"
Hahahaha that'd be so awesome; and completely just a fantasy. LOL
... he wasn't there :( no breakfast table and no sight of Mr Prime Minister. *giggle*

maybe NEXT YEAR!??!! I wonder if he wears striped pyjamas... :P haha

Driven by a brand new Adventure - Delectable TREATS!

"I can't believe I'm standing in front of someone's dream"
.....said Raymond with a hug and smile.

Taking each step forward towards this Delectable 'dream' of mine has been unreal.

It's often a cycle where I find myself going through the same little sequences of stress, horror and then triumphant moments. I don't think I'll ever tire of it. I don't deny my occasional whine-spree which everyone is probably tired of hearing *giggle* sorry... heee.. But yes; i love my job and everything that comes with it.

In the past year I've learnt so much from running our Delectable Designer cake Studio up at The Gardens Mall midvalley. We have gradually introduced new and seasonal items onto our shelves which have eventually now become permanent favourites with our customers. It wasn't exactly rocket science to figure out that it would be a good idea to add on more varieties and quantities of these things that everyone began coming back for.
With the help of feedback from our lovely elves and customers; it helped us at production understand what we had to do with TREATS! Most of what I've put up in our new menu comprises of family secrets; favourites and a host of sweet treats which are personal. They've got a story to them and most of the recipes I've chosen to use mean something special to me.
From little fun things my mom used to make for us at home to concoctions I fed my housemates back in Sydney; I've touched them up and made them Delectable!

Just recently we've had an introductory launch for an opportunity to hand out samples of our products and to celebrate with our Delectable family and fans over mingle and wine. It was a fun evening for my elves and I. We did our best with the short time that we had to bring out piping hot savoury foods and a sampler dish each of our new cakes + desserts.

I want to thank everyone for the gifts; for the support; advice; for coming.. just for EVERYTHING! I truly truly appreciate all the love showered onto what we do and sharing the excitement with us has made it such a memorable experience for the elves and I.

An adventure begins in the morning.
*JUMPS AROUND with excitement!!!*
Kay... I'm not exactly ready for our Treats products to be out 100% at this point; but it's the first day of business at 10am tomorrow. Have got no option! The 15th is HERE!
We're gonna have some of our most popular items out first and the newbies will join us gradually in the next couple of days.

The Treats store looks awesome! I'm so happy with it! I have my dad and sis to thank for organizing the construction of it; and of course; the carpenters and contractors who worked through the nights to make it all happen in 5 days! *phew*...It wasn't easy and there were of course many bumps in the road; but *shrug* needn't talk about it anymore! haha THE SHOP IS BEAUTIFUL! YAYYyyy~!!

I'm going to bed now.. I have to be up early early to help get the Delectable stuff out super fresh!
I probably have to count 10000 sheep before this excitement wears off... teehee*

These are just super fun to make. Most of the time; I dont get to meet the lucky individuals I make the cakes for, but I get to know them from the many funny details and nice things their loved ones share about them.
To everyone else; the collection of items and details on the cake may look a little queer; but to the recipient and people close to them, it could mean the world! That's whats great about these... it's a personal sorta thing; nobody else has to understand or share it you with :)

If i were to create a personal assemblage for myself... Hmm.. I would probably have my macbook, blackberry, lil cuddly toys, a jar of peanut butter (spoon stuck inside), my doodle book + sketch pad, nikon DSLR.. and.. and.. and a big bowl of Instant noodles! *laughs*

It was an incredible run for Su and it's now time to grow those ideas that have been hanging around. It never ends... I constantly find ways to torture myself haha. I'm loving it! The current outlet is going to always be our main studio space where I have my clients and friends come in for consultations sessions on designer projects; but we've got to find more convenient ways for our fans to reach our Delectable goodies no?

TREATS will have all those lovely freshly baked desserts you've come to love at Delectable but in more varieties and flavours! I've been really busy with the artwork, photography, shop construction, staffing, recipe testing, tasting too of course! haha loads more to do... we open in less than a WEEK!

The shop is looking pretty good up to this point; there are just so many many little finicky bits to finally getting it up and running. I'm going nuts with this! really nuts... having the same issues I had with myself a year ago; striving for perfection and running on no sleep for days.. I would have probably passed out if not for the daily dosages of Ribena and caffeine haha.

I perched myself at the mall entrance for a late lunch this evening. Good breeze, tiled sidewalks, view of the fountain...it's always really nice to have a brief escape from the air conditioning inside.
My attention was drawn to a yellow striped Delectable box swinging past. A young boy had it by the ribbon. He walked up to a pretty girl sat right next to me. She squealed in delight when she saw him come by. "CUPCAKES!" she exclaimed. He responded with proud nod; "All 3 them are the chocolate teddy flavour!"
She was so thrilled how he remembered her favourite.
I was just as thrilled as she was haha... trying hard not to burst out in smiles and giggles myself. I sneakily watched as they cuddled up close to each other and shared our little Delectable cake. She made him eat around the bear and snapped at him each time he threatened to bite it's head off. They were so cute to watch!
What really gave away my obvious eavesdropping was when I overheard her say; "These moments are why I love you."
I was SO close to whipping out my cellphone and taking a photo of them with my camera! SO CLOSE! Didn't exactly want to freak them out or spoil their moment with my personal "AWwwww... that's so sweettt"

I'm sure many of us are lucky to remember what falling for someone felt.

You hold on to your phone waiting for it to ring, beep, or just SOMETHING already dammit!
Everyone you know stares at your bright cheery eyes; they know something's up.

I blame mom for bringing home those addictive GLEE episodes on DVD! haha; I've been moving my cakes to the living room where she watches TV till weee hours of the morning.
I admit; it's difficult to not to fall in love with GLEE! haha This was one of my very favourite clips.

Just in the next couple of coming weeks; I'm going to be going out of my mind. Why? Haha I've got some secrets up my sleeves. *teehee*
I remember years ago; as a teenager... there were moments where dreams of being a pastry chef and having a cake studio seemed unreachable or unrealistic.. I'd humm this to myself. The lyrics transported my mind to a place where nothing was impossible. It reminded me that the world is so much bigger than what meets my little eyes. This song kept me company through my roughest periods and made me realise that there was always going to be a tune to cheer myself up. I've got a theory that music helps heal and sooth all emotional wounds... I still believe this very much.
Well... cuddly toys too of course. I love cuddly toys.. haha I've got a feeling I'm good at making them out of sugar because of the many toys I own since I was a little girl. *shrug*

A 'gwai mui jai' is literally (minus the racism): "white chick"
To say that I detest being called a gwai mui jai is an understatement. I get referred to in many ocassions by fellow Chinese (who think they are better than i am *hmph* haha) as this because it seems that I am culturally and verbally 'western'-ised. Does that make sense? Bah..
It isn't that I am trying to be caucasion; or i am denying my asian heritage.. I am who I am because of the different experiences I have had in my life. I am very proud to be Chinese; i just don't speak the language very much or often.. which then makes me bad at conversations. I can sing karaoke in chinese; I think that's good enough no? haha. I have understanding friends who feed the words and lyrics to me 2 seconds in advance through whispers as I sing. It's the only way I can fake it! hahaha (you know who you are ;) hehe)
But to be fair; they do generally use it with a gesture of endearment as opposed to it being a complete insult......

I'm guessing for most of us; our daddies will be busy watching the FIFA World cup; not too enthusiastic about going out for a long classy dinner/holiday to some place with no live soccer telecast hehe.
Well; nevertheless he's not gonna be happy if you conveniently forget that it's FATHERS DAY!

We've got plenty of snacks and dad friendly treats to have him smiling from ear to ear whilst glued to the tube.
